Why is it important to eat locally?
- Support farmers in your area -- whether that's your community, state, region or even country.
- Reduce the miles that your food travels (and fuel needed). On average, food travels about 1500 miles to get to your plate. Not only does that use a lot of gas and money, but key nutrients are lost during that travel time.
- Eating locally allows you to get in touch with your environment, the current season, and many cultures believe that it connects you on a spiritual level to the earth.
It is very difficult to eat locally all of the time, but for many of our everyday foods, all that it takes is a little extra thought.
